Blue Wave Hits Loudoun on Election Day

Loudoun County helped Virginia send a message to the country last night by electing or reelecting candidates up and down the ballot.

“There can be no doubt that Loudoun County believes in the Democratic vision of equality, the rule of law, and a better future for everyone who calls this community home,” said LCDC Chair Ryan Ruzic.

“For the first time in modern political history, Loudoun sends a full ticket of Democrats to Richmond. The national press called Loudoun the bellwether for Virginia, and Virginia the bellwether for the Nation. We sent a message and that message is clear, America rejects President Trump’s disdain for our laws and our people. And we are not done yet.”

The results in Virginia House District 30 are especially encouraging. After so many years of not having their values represented in the state House, residents of HD 30 wake up to a bright new day with John McAuliff headed to Richmond this January.

His victory comes after many long, hard years of knocking doors in rural Loudoun and making connections with our neighbors.

We congratulate all of yesterday’s winners!

  • Abigail Spanberger, Governor

  • Ghazala Hashmi, Lieutenant Governor

  • Jay Jones, Attorney General

  • JJ Singh, delegate in HD 26

  • Atoosa Reaser, Delegate in HD 27

  • David Reid, Delegate in HD 28

  • Marty Martinez, Delegate in HD 29

  • John McAuliff, Delegate in HD 30

  • April Chandler, School Board for Algonkian

  • Jon Pepper, School Board for Dulles

  • Ross Svenson, School Board for Broad Run

We know that while Election Day was a powerful step forward, the real work of delivering for our neighbors is just beginning.

We are also grateful for Arben Istrefi’s service to the Sterling community on our School Board, and proud of his efforts to keep the focus on student achievement.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered with his campaign, knocking doors, making phone calls, talking to their friends and neighbors, and to his team who gave it 110%. Sterling was fortunate to have a true public servant like Arben, and we know we haven't seen the last of him.
