Freedoms on the Line with this Election
Everything is on the line in 2025. If we want to protect reproductive freedom, voting rights restoration, and marriage equality for generations to come – we must enshrine them in Virginia’s Constitution. That means we must defend and expand the majority in the House of Delegates to finish what we started, and give Virginians the power to vote on reproductive freedom in 2026!
In order for a constitutional amendment to pass in Virginia, it must be approved by the General Assembly in two consecutive legislative sessions, with a House of Delegates election held in between. Three amendments were approved by the General Assembly in 2025 and must be passed again in the 2026 session. Then the amendments can go on the ballot in a general election.
Reproductive freedom
What it does: Establishes a fundamental right to reproductive freedom in the state constitution.
Details: The measure would allow for the right to make decisions about contraception, abortion, and fertility care, among other reproductive health matters. It would prohibit the Commonwealth from interfering with or penalizing individuals for their pregnancy outcomes.
Voting rights restoration
What it does: Automatically restores voting rights to individuals with felony convictions after their release from incarceration.
Details: This would replace the current system, which requires individuals to petition the governor to have their rights restored individually.
Marriage equality
What it does: Repeals the state's defunct 2006 constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and explicitly guarantees the right to marry for all adults, regardless of sex, gender, or race.
Details: Though same-sex marriage is already protected by federal law, this amendment would provide state-level protections for Virginians, even if federal law changes.
These important measures can only be enshrined in Virginia’s constitution if we hold onto seats held by Democrats in the House, and even build on that majority. In Loudoun, that means working to ensure victories for:
● Delegate JJ Singh, HD 26
● Delegate Atoosa Reaser, HD 27
● Delegate David Reid, HD 28
● Delegate Marty Martinez, HD 29
● John McAuliff, candidate for HD 30
With your help, we can advance all these initiatives toward the finish line this November! Early voting is underway in Leesburg, and expands to satellite locations on Oct. 20. Find out how you can get involved now.
