Communications Committee

What does the Communications Committee do?

  • The Communications Committee is the window into the Loudoun County Democrats and its voice projecting outward into the community.

  • We are responsible for focusing Loudoun voters’ attention on issues and policies of importance to Democrats locally, regionally, and nationally.

  • We shape the message and respond to both internal and external inquiries, in addition to keeping members informed about all LCDC activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Communications Committee?

The Committee consists of a couple dozen Loudoun Democrats – some with backgrounds in media, marketing, organizing, political campaigns, public relations, and website maintenance – who help hone LCDC’s messages.

Generally, what does the Comms Com do?

We identify issues and topics of importance to Democratic voters in Loudoun County and bring them to public attention. This is done in coordination with LCDC’s committees on Issues, Diversity, Labor, and Voter Protection, to name a few. We also keep our members informed about LCDC activities and maintain the website and our social media presence.

Specifically, what kind of things do Committee members perform?

Committee members do a variety of tasks. This may take the form of writing Op-Eds or Letters to the Editor of local and regional publications, penning insightful emails regarding the day’s news, assisting in a variety of editing tasks, helping develop literature for outreach, answering incoming questions, posting on social media, or website maintenance.

How does that work?

Several times a week, committee members – with the help of LCDC staff – send emails to more than 4,000 active Democrats commenting on significant news events. We also maintain contacts with local and regional media. In response to events, we prepare and distribute press releases. We also oversee the LCDC calendar, keeping members informed of upcoming meetings and events.

If I got involved, how much time would it take?

As much or as little as you care to volunteer. Probably no more than a couple hours a week. We appreciate any time you have.

Are you in need of specific talents?

Special talents are not necessary, though we can always use writers, researchers, graphic design artists, those with marketing and organizing skills.

May I attend a meeting of the Committee?

Yes. Anyone may attend meetings of LCDC committees. Times and locations and/or Zoom addresses may be found in the LCDC calendar.
