What does the Issues Committee do?

If you’d like to effectuate positive change while meeting people with common interests, join the LCDC Issues Committee! Attend one of our meetings and/or join our email list! No prior experience or expertise is needed and no major time commitment is required. You can be as active as you want!

  • We conduct research on local, state, and national issues of importance to the LCDC’s mission and to Democratic candidates or officeholders and provide timely and accurate factual information regarding such issues.

  • We support the processing of Resolutions and disseminate those that are approved by LCDC to facilitate communication of what we stand for.

  • We notify members of, and solicit participation by them at, public hearings to support our positions on legislation and regulations.

Any LCDC Member in good standing may volunteer to serve on the Issues Committee. Send an email to: issues@loudoundemocrats.org and request to join the Committee. 

Do I need experience to join the Issues Committee?

No experience is required.  Bring your passion and whatever expertise you have.    

Which issues does the Issues Committee focus on?

The Issues Committee researches any issues of concern to Loudoun County voters - local, state, and federal.  The Issues Committee members drive the agenda with input from LCDC membership.

Who is the Issues Committee’s audience?

The Issues Committee informs LCDC members, elected officials that represent Loudoun, and Loudoun voters.  

How does the Issues Committee disseminate information?

The Issues Committee coordinates with the LCDC Communications Committee, where appropriate, to inform members, electeds, and voters.  

What is a resolution, and what is the process for passing one?

A resolution is a statement representing the will of the LCDC membership on a particular issue. The process is as follows:

  1. An LCDC member introduces a draft resolution at the monthly LCDC membership meeting. A member presenting a resolution should notify the LCDC Secretary in advance of the meeting to ensure the draft resolution is included with the agenda. 

  2. The Issues Committee reviews and edits the draft resolution, until a final version is agreed upon.  

  3. The final version is presented at the next LCDC monthly membership meeting, where the general membership will vote on whether to adopt the resolution.  

  4. The resolution is uploaded to the LCDC website and may be circulated to the press.
