Frequently Asked Questions
What is the LCDC Labor Committee?
The LCDC Labor Committee is an alliance of the Northern Virginia Labor Council and the Loudoun County Democratic Committee. Its mission is to organize and build an expanding local activist base to address and resolve issues of social and economic justice that adversely affect the needs and aspirations of working families in Loudoun County.
The Committee will develop and propose policy resolutions regarding such issues to the Loudoun County Democratic Committee for its deliberation and decision. Resolutions adopted by the LCDC membership will serve as a basis for alliance-building among Northern Virginia counties with their delegations to the General Assembly.
The committee values education and knowledge. We will conduct education sessions on Labor topics such as wage theft, workplace safety, corporate greed, worker rights, and raising the minimum wage. The committee will act as a conduit of information to and from the LCDC to expand education and participation.
Membership will comprise representatives of the NOVA Labor Council, members of the Loudoun County Democratic Committee, and others.

Do I need to belong to a union to join the LCDC Labor Committee?
No. Anyone who is interested in promoting the labor agenda and labor unions in Loudoun County is welcome to join. Just send an email to labor@loudoundemocrats.org with a request to join.
What does “Right to Work” mean?
States that have adopted “Right to Work” laws, which currently includes Virginia, do not allow “closed shops”. That means that at a workplace that has a union, the union cannot force any employee to join the union. This limits the ability of unions to do their work.
What are some of the issues that the Labor Committee is engaged in?
The LCDC Labor Committee works with local government officials and businesses to promote a number of fair labor practices as outlined here.
