Precinct Ops Committee
What does the Precinct Operations Committee do?
We are the “boots on the ground” organizational arm for the Loudoun County Democrats. We build participation throughout the year in each of Loudoun’s 98 precincts and coordinate efforts like postcard writing and Get Out the Vote campaigns.
For the six weeks of Early Voting and for Election Day, we recruit volunteers to be an encouraging and helpful presence outside the polls, greeting voters as they arrive and offering information about the party’s endorsed candidates. Additionally, we organize outreach to mail-in voters to inform them about our candidates.
We design and organize the distribution of Democratic sample ballots at the polls.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I volunteer even if I’m not a member of the Loudoun County Democrats?
Absolutely! Click the Volunteer button to get to the Volunteer page, or e-mail Volunteer@LoudounDemocrats.org, and we’ll let you know what’s coming up.
How is Precinct Ops organized?
We have six Coordinators who organize different efforts for the Committee. There is a Precinct Captain for each of the 98 polling places in the County, and they’re coordinated by a Precinct Coordinator in each of the County’s eight magisterial districts. It’s a lot to cover, but many hands make short work.
What do Precinct Captains do?
Precinct Captains organize the volunteer presence at their precinct on Election Day. They provide the day’s volunteers with supplies for the day and fill in if someone can’t make it to their shift.
Do you need any more Precinct Captains? Would I have to be responsible for the precinct where I vote?
We always need Precinct Captains, and you don’t have to volunteer where you vote. You also don’t need to stay at the polling place all day.
